A Segunda Division B club, Alcorcon led the Spanish giants 3-0 at half-time in their round of 32 first leg Spanish King’s Cup tie.

“There’s no reason or explanation for how the team performed. We hope our fans can forgive us,” said Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini.

Real have lost three of their last five games, winning only one.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka both did not play and Real are due to play Getafe next in the Primera Liga. A game against AC Milan follows in the UEFA Champions League.

Real spent £226.5m over the summer on new players.
